School rating systems can help you to narrow down your top school choices, but they can also be confusing. Each rating system works differently and sometimes the basis for measurement is different from system to system.

Texas Education Agency

The Texas Education Agency is the state agency that oversees primary and secondary public education to provide leadership, guidance, and resources to help schools meet the educational needs of all students. TEA is also responsible for providing school performance data to the public in the form of school accountability data and ratings. GreatSchools is an independent nonprofit whose mission is to help all parents get a great education for their children and for communities to ensure that all students receive a quality education. The organization has developed a nationwide tool that allows you to search for schools based on location; it also provides a rating of those schools on a scale of one to 10. Children at Risk is a Texas-based nonprofit whose mission is to serve as a catalyst for change to improve the quality of life for children through strategic research, public policy analysis, education, collaboration, and advocacy.
