Families Empowered is a service organization with the mission of empowering families to engage in a marketplace of schools.
We serve families across Texas, with regional programs in Austin, Houston and San Antonio.
One part of our work: serving tens of thousands of families waitlisted by public charter schools. Each year, charter schools are forced to waitlist thousands of students, as they are unable to meet the demand. Parents opt in to receive help from Families Empowered when they apply to one of our partner schools.
This service to families gives Families Empowered a birds-eye view of demand for quality school options in the cities we serve.
In our most recent analysis, Texas families submitted 77,611 applications in the hopes of attending a public charter school. Tens of thousands were placed on a waiting list for lack of space.
Below, our application maps illustrate the scale of demand for school choice. We provide this service to educate community leaders, voters and our elected officials.
Parents are demanding diverse school options and quality choices. Yet demand is dramatically outpacing current supply. The end result: tens of thousands of children are left waiting.
